How to properly apply face cream?

You probably think that it’s trivial. After all, the cream is what it is. Everyone knows how to apply it. Take a bit from the jar, spread it with the fingertips on the face, dab it – that’s the whole philosophy.
It turns out, however, that we can help our cosmetics to absorb better and our skin to age more slowly. It is true that the best and the most important things are the simplest ones – a cream application combined with facial massage will do wonders. Why? Why is it that the application matters as much as the type of cosmetic used?

A properly selected face cream, that is one that is suitable for your skin type and its needs, should contain as many natural active ingredients as possible. It is very important in the skin care. It turns out, however, that even the best cream or serum can give varying results. There are two reasons:

1. Poorly washed skin

Cleansing the face has become a sacrum for those interested in proper skin care. Micellar water in the morning and evening is not enough for the skin to regenerate. Not without reason Korean women call the morning and evening routine a ‘ritual’ – their daily care has many stages, they never apply a face cream without a thorough cleansing of the skin. If the skin is properly purified, the cream will penetrate deeper into the skin. To make sure all the ingredients work, you need to pay attention to the way you cleanse your skin.

2. Improper application

Massages and physical exercises contribute to the body resilience – this is a fact known for a long time. Exactly the same applies to the face – under the skin there is a number of muscles that lose their flexibility if they are not exercised. What happens when we do the facial massage? The rate of blood and lymph flow is increased, cellular metabolism is accelerated. As a result, the active ingredients are better absorbed. What is the effect? The skin is well oxygenated and nourished and day by day it gains firmness and colour reducing dark circles around the eyes and discolourations. The facial features also change: they become milder and the face withstands gravity because stimulation of nerve endings relaxes the muscles. Facial massage became popular at the beginning of 20th century, when it was popularized by Nadia Payot, the founder of Payot. It is she who invented a special facial massage which is based on 42 gestures. Nadia noted that combining the right touch with a good, carefully selected cosmetic gives excellent (and faster) rejuvenating results, because the massage stimulates the cellular metabolism.

How to apply face cream – simple massage step by step

You will be able to learn a few rules of the proper application in just a couple of minutes. The process itself does not take a lot of time – it is only a short treatment, helping to ‘push’ the cosmetic into the deeper parts of the skin However, if you feel that your skin needs more exercises, massage it when applying serum or natural oil (you can do it with your hands or a special jade roller). It is enough to follow 4 steps in the morning and evening:

  1. Warm up the cream on your fingertips and then massage using slow, circular motions (from the chin upwards).
  2. Dab the cream onto the area around the mouth and eyes gently with your bare fingertips – the skin there is very delicate and does not like strong stretching.
  3. You can massage the forehead a bit more intensively: start by applying pressure to the point between the eyebrows, in the place where ‘the lion’s wrinkle’ is created.
  4. Then ‘calm down’ the skin, stroking the face from the nose towards the temple.

If you want to include massage in your skin care routine – it’s good to watch several videos with massage techniques or ask your beauty specialist for advice – this way you will choose the right technique for your face. You can also try face yoga to train individual muscles, eg strengthen the skin under the eyes.
