Exfoliating socks. How to use them without getting your feed irritated?
Popular method of making your foot skin smooth is exfoliating socks. Definitely, this is a very simple and effective alternative to pumice and foot file use. How do exfoliating socks work and when can we use them freely without bothering that acids would harm our skin?
Especially during the summer we expect our feet to look good. We tend to apply various creams and peelings, sadly, often without success. Deprived of oil glands foot skin is fast to dehydrate and keratinize. As a result, skin becomes hard and thick, and this can be dealt with only due to regular and well-thought-out foot care.
Horny foot skin and cracked heels
The most common problem affecting foot is hard, horny skin with the tendency to cracking. Heels in particular are the very foot parts where the outcomes of improper care are felt most. Hyper-dehydration of feet causes not only discomfort but also it doesn’t look good. Despite foot skin being naturally thicker, we frequently contribute to its callusing ourselves.
The causes of excessive skin callusing:
- refraining from using moisturising creams,
- too intensive pumice use,
- ill-matched footwear that pinches feet,
- being long in a standing position,
- hormonal disorders, obesity, diabetics.
How to make this protective wall of callus skin fall down? How to soften foot skin and prevent callusing? For example, it’s worth giving a try to exfoliating socks.
Ways for smooth foot skin
There are various methods of removing horny skin from foot heels. In most cases, we reach for pumice, foot files or electric foot scrubbers. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry because too frequent and too intensive removal of hard skin encourages it to grow even faster. This is a kind of a protective mechanism of our organism that reacts with accelerated epidermis cell production. For that reason, exfoliating socks seem to be a better solution. Combine it with a good moisturising cream and taking regular foot baths without which skin gets back to its previous ‘hard’ state very fast.
EXFOLIATING SOCKS
This is an effective alternative if we don’t plan to do pedicure. Exfoliating socks resemble regular socks with the difference that they are made of foil material. Inside, they are soaked with a cocktail of skin exfoliating substances the consistency of resembles runny gel. Although exfoliating socks aren’t super comfortable to wear, they work well because:
- exfoliating socks speed up natural processes of callous skin removal,
- exfoliating socks reduce corns,
- exfoliating socks smooth, soften and moisturise foot skin deeply,
- exfoliating socks even skin tone eliminating discolorations,
- exfoliating socks leave fatigued feet fresh and relieved.
How do exfoliating sock work?
For the effect of skin exfoliation responsible is a composition of well-selected substances. There is no need in filing down or stripping the horny skin from heels. Due to being exposed to substances that affect dead epidermis cells, this hard skin layer separates itself form heels and exfoliates. Within a few days since putting on the exfoliating socks, foot skin starts flaking off and the feet are getting smoother. Without our effort, without a massive quantity of cosmetics, and without irritations.
What do exfoliating socks contain?
The most important substances of exfoliating socks are, of course, acids which act similarly to enzymatic peeling acids – they remove dead epidermis cells. Depending on the type of exfoliating socks you choose, they can contain AHA fruit acids (most often glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid) as well as silicic acid (BHA). Concentration and acid blends may vary, therefore it’s better if we pick the socks that match a particular foot problem. In other words, the less callus skin, the ‘weaker’ exfoliating socks can be used.
Naturally, exfoliating substances aren’t the only ingredients that can be found in exfoliating socks. A good quality product must also contain water-replenishing substances, nourishing substances and blend of ingredients that relieves possible irritations. For that reason exfoliating socks can contain the following substances: allantoin, urea, castor oil, citrus oils, black cranberry extract, cucumber extract, aloe juice, sea algae, prickly pear or passion fruit extract, honey, vitamin E, bamboo vinegar, etc. It all depends on a particular product.
How to use exfoliating socks?
Using exfoliating socks is super easy. It doesn’t require any mechanical action. All that has to be done is putting the socks on clean and towel-dried feet. You can secure exfoliating socks by putting on regular socks with a cuff so as to prevent them from slipping. The mixture of acids and additional conditioning substances starts affecting callos skin so the process of dead epidermis cells begins. Exfoliating socks have to be left on feet for approximately 1-2 hours (the detailed instructions are provided in the leaflet the product goes with) to notice foot skin getting gradually exfoliated after 5-6 days. As a result, feet become smooth, soft and healthy for a long time.
